Update KDE Plasma to a version that is supported

Fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04.3 installs KDE plasma 5.27.12 which is no longer supported. How do I install 6.4 or newer?
    Thanks

However Plasma 5.27.12 no longer receives updates or maintenance from KDE; active versions are 6.4 or newer. Please upgrade to an active version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the next one.
If you need help with Plasma 5.27.12, please contact your distribution, who bears the responsibility of providing help for older releases that are no longer receiving updates from KDE.
If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to an active version, feel free to re-open this bug report.

You need to move to a non-LTS release.

Part of the issue here is that more current Plasma needs more current versions of other system libraries and Qt that can't easily be upgraded on the slow-moving LTS base OS.

As to your bug, that message is automated, just to be clear.
This may be a distro specific issue ( Ubuntu) or default polkit setup or similar system in Ubuntu (aka intended behavior) or a bug in it, not necessarily one from KDE.

From a test in a VM, installing the current release, the same thing happens, but I can't tell where the cause/blame lies.
So an upgrade might not fix things.

    Of course passwd <username> works.
