How do I get the old configuration back? Everything has been moved to the left side. I prefer the clock and tray on the right and the menu and quick start buttons on the left. How do I reconfigure it the way I am used to? The mountain picture is nice.

I do not like the changes to the menu bar after todays update
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

It's also not putting my active programs on the menu bar. I suspect the update may have gone south a messed up my system.

You are missing a task manager widget on your panel -- something that is very unlikely to have been caused by an update, since this is a user-specific setting. I am sure there is some way a system update might do this, just that it is an extremely low chance. It would be a good idea to make sure you aren't missing any updates, or had issues installing them.
In any case, you can add the Icons-Only Task Manager widget back, or worst case try adding a new defualt panel on a side or the top,, then remove the original one and move the new one to the bottom.Last edited by claydoh; Feb 06, 2025, 01:45 AM.

When I click on the icons only button, it says there was an error and lists a bunch of errors. Something broke during the update.

That worked but that panel is messed up too. I will look at that error message I get when trying to install the icon-only panel later today. May I can use APT to reinstall it and maybe that will get it working properly again. Have to be later.Originally posted by Snowhog View PostRight-click on the Desktop. Did you try any of these two commands to see if some package did not install properly?andCode:sudo apt install --fix-broken
Normally that should take care of most failed installation of packages/dependencies. It's the reason I always use the terminal to do system updates and leave Discover updater for themes updates and other non-essential updates (flatpaks). There, if anything is broken I can see what it is right away.Code:sudo apt install --fix-missing

Conceivably your problem is a messed up ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc. You might try renaming that file, and logging out, and back in again; the file will be recreated, in a vanilla state, losing most plasma set up, but coming back in a consistent state.Regards, John Little

Those two commands did nothing. Adding the Kubuntu default panel after just adds another broken panel. I think something broke and APT is unable to see that it is broken. Perhaps an unusual problem.Originally posted by jlittle View PostConceivably your problem is a messed up ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc. I was just in Discover and I noticed that down in the left corner where it says updates if you look to the right of that there is a box with an orange background and in the center of that box is a white exclamation point. does this tell anyone anything?

The scroll back is too small to go back to the start. I was going to use my Pastebin account. I will reboot and let you know if it fixed the problem or if it is still broken.
