How large should I make the root partition in 22.04? I have a 3TB drive, but I'll be running a Windows VM. I can be fairly generous with the root partition. Thanks.

20 Gb or more should do it. I don't think I have seen any of my installs get that large, but I have been close. I am semi-tidy with space management, though.
I'd say 30Gb should be more than adequate for space and growing room.
Or give BTRFS a go, and not worry about the size at all.Last edited by claydoh; May 08, 2022, 06:34 PM.Self-built: Asus PRIME B550M-K/Ryzen 5600GT/32Gb/Intel ARC B580 12Gb/KDE neon

I will add that the suggested 20-30 GB is fine for most users if you have a separate SWAP partition. If swap is used as a file stored in root, then extra space for that should be added.
I also assume you have a separate HOME partition.
Users that install a lot of apps (I thinking specially on games) can need a lot more space in root.Last edited by Svein M; Jun 15, 2022, 05:02 AM.
