[SOLVED] Can't save a file now.

I don't know what I or something did, but now I can't save a file to Dolphin. When I try to save a file, I get this pop-up: "Configuration file "/home/lynn/.config/kreadconfig5rc" not writable.
Please contact your system administrator.?" I'm the administrator, of course. So I tried to change the writability for "others" and got this pop-up: "Could not change permissions for /home/lynn/Documents/1.Personal/1.Money/Purchases." This pattern occurs no matter what file I try to save for from what source (I've tried only web browsers so far). Will someone please tell me how to solve this?

Check to see if your drive is full.

I have 116 Gb free. What are inodes?

I just noticed that after a wait of about 15-20', I spontaneously get this pop-up message while I'm watching a video: "Configuration file "/home/lynn/.config/kreadconfig5rc" not writable.
Please contact your system administrator." Something seems wrong with the desktop. I'm going to try logging out & back in and see what happens.

Is that your whole drive, or is that your /home partition, if you have a separate one?

            Also, who 'owns' the files?

            lets see:
            Code:
            ls -la ~/.config
            and
            Code:
            df -h
Run any GUI applications recently using sudo, by any chance?

                And a third (for inodes)....

                Code:
                df -i

They are bits of a data block that store info about what's in that block. Usually having a bajillion small files on a smaller drive can fill em up.
I haven't dealt inodes in 11 years - I only remember because it was when I was on 13.10, after upgrading Kubuntu for 3.5 years straight - that's 7. Lots of cruft, even though I had plenty of space, and kept (I thought) a tidy enough system.
I never bothered to note what I needed to do for posterity's sake, but it was more than just deleting junk files. I think.

Usually deleting gobs of tiny files clears this problem up, assuming it is the case.

I'll leave this here for now. It's late-ish evening, so I'll re-read your post and think about it tomorrow and hope that someone else adds something critical. Btw, in attempting to log out & back in, I somehow rebooted, and--son of a gun, I can download a file now, and I'm not even restricted to the Downloads folder; I chose exactly where I wanted it to go. And another problem appears to be fixed: I can give a file to be downloaded the name I want it to have and have it download exactly where I want it. Wow. I just don't know what all is wrong and how to fix it other than, for now, to simply reboot. But, this isn't Windows; this isn't supposed to happen. So, the real question is, why does this sort of crap happen, or is it happening to me. I seriously doubt that this sort of thing happens to your admins. If it did, I'm sure you'd ditch Kub. after enough such hassles.

A failing drive , or some bad blocks or other hardware level issues could be at play.
Maybe, during the reboot, an fsck was run and fixed the problem, maybe? these do run periodically, if not more often.
                    hopefully this is what happened.

Both of your thoughts seem correct. I'm using an old-ish 256 GB SSD that a computer store gave me until I can get a "real", i.e., permanent, SSD with its OS. It could, indeed, have bad blocks. So, it also seems likely that the reboot's fsck fixed the problem; it seems to have. I'll call this problem solved.

Yep, agree with rebooting periodically. It allows the natural clearing up processes to run. I reboot every day; I know that's not for everyone, but takes the time to do it routinely, weekly, daily, monthly.

Definitely something to consider, which I will do. Just want to think about it some.
