[DESKTOP] KSM Greeter ALWAYS CRASHES after updating the NVIDIA driver

Why is it that this has been happening for several versions of Ubuntu and yet it has never been debugged? I use muon to update Kubuntu and then try to restart and the KSM greeter crashes. This requires me to use a konsel to sudo reboot.

Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

Maybe I remembered the name wrong. What is the application that lets you see previous error messages?

I just found this link. Glad it's already been reported on launchpad.net Maybe it will get fixed. Maybe someone should ask NVIDIA to test ther drivers. It might be related to updating their driver on Ubuntu.

I don't know. The only time Nvidia has ever given me any grief is when I don't use the correct driver.

Kubuntu 20.04.1 is exceptionally stable, and except for when I've made a (very) few poor operational choices, hasn't failed me yet.

I wouldn't expect it to. This has been reported on launchpad.net as affecting many users so hopefully, it gets fixed soon. If it is a problem with NVIDIA's driver and or installer then NVIDIA will probably have to fix it themselves.

O.K., I'll bite. What version of the nvidia driver are you using, and what Nvidia card are you using?

I'm running the same driver on KDE Neon with an [COLOR=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.7)]MSI Geforce 4Gb GTX-1050ti and haven't had a problem yet.

Well, except one but that's for a different thread.

Good for you but several people have gotten the KSM server greeter crash and it is an active bug on launchpad.net

Just a shot in the dark, so probaly the wrong path. Could Apt be recommending the wrong driver?
