Yup. You have to select the specific drive down lower in the panel nowadays.

You can add a custom location if you want i believe.

With Dolphin running, right-click on the word Places and select Add Entry...

In the pop-up window (Add Places Entry -- Dolphin) give Label: a useful name (I named it Root).

            In Location: change to /

If you want (I did), click on the folder (Choose an icon:) and pick a Red Folder (or not; your call).

            Click OK.

            Done.

              Thanks Snowhog,

I wonder if there was a reson from the Devs why this was taken away from places.

Probably as it is already represented by the drive/device. Again, I still can't find the reference to this change, though i did stop looking.

Another trick is to use gparted or KDE Partition Manager and give/change the label for the drives

My solution to this problem is to go into a blank area under the left panel places and right mouse click and select Show Hidden Places. For the extra places that are revealed, go to the title such as Devices then right mouse click on the title and it will show in the list that Show Hidden Places is highlighted and being selected. Click on the "tick" next to this title and then close. When you restart Dolphin it will then be shown.

New dolphin configs do not have the root device as an option as a folder in Places section of the panel any longer, just the via device, or via the breadcrumb/arrow thingy on the location bar.

I am wondering if root is no longer shown, how come I have this list in Places?

As you can see, Root is listed in this image.

I'll guess yours is not a fresh install or fresh, default config.
