Subsonic is not reading any folders

    Greetings,

I'm new to Kubuntu 20.04 and the Plasma platform but not new to Kubuntu ... I've been using it for many years. In fact, I just ditched 16.04 for 20.04!

I'm curious what my issue might be with Subsonic the music streamer. I loaded it right from the repository for 20.04. For some reason, I'm having issues getting it to read my media folders whether local or on my NAS (TrueNAS).

The Subsonic log files are abysmally useless, but here's a snippet of the problem:

[1/9/22 6:46:57 PM CST] INFO MediaScannerService Starting to scan media library.
[1/9/22 6:46:57 PM CST] WARN FileUtil Failed to list children for /media/tdreyer
[1/9/22 6:46:57 PM CST] WARN FileUtil Failed to list children for /home/tdreyer/Music
[1/9/22 6:46:57 PM CST] INFO MediaScannerService Scanned media library with 5 entries.
[1/9/22 6:46:57 PM CST] INFO MediaScannerService Marking non-present files.
[1/9/22 6:46:57 PM CST] INFO MediaScannerService Marking non-present artists.
[1/9/22 6:46:57 PM CST] INFO MediaScannerService Marking non-present albums.
[1/9/22 6:46:57 PM CST] INFO MediaScannerService Completed media library scan.

Any ideas? Subsonic worked flawlessly for many years with Kubuntu 16.04

    Thanks.

Did you install 20.04 over your 16.04, keeping (not formatting) your /home directory, or a totally new install?

20.04 has subsonic in its repos? I don't see it. I will guess it is the newfangled Snap version as opposed to native packaging.
The last version for this listed on their website is over two years old, so that may be part of the problem, but something simpler like file and directory permissions may be another.

Subsonic's install instructions seem quite a bit outdated.

      Then there is this:

      But even airsonic is dead

But the fork of the fork seems alive

No idea on what is involved to install this.

Fresh install of 20.04, also fresh install of Subsonic via Snap.

Some configuration is needed, and the Snap's creator (who is not necessarily the developer of the software) doesn't provide any link to useful info on the snap's store page.

Thanks for comments so far. FWIW, Elisa works just fine, but I'm looking more for a media streamer that also has an app I can use with my phone to steam music from 20.04 to other devices in my home (Google Chromecast audio). Subsonic and it's companion app DSub have worked fine for that, and it appears that Airsonic supports DSub as well. Installing Airsonic looks a little messy but I might give it a go. I see it in the repository but after installing it, I'm not finding it in the menus, so I'm not sure what's up with that.

You might be able to make subsonic work, using the directions from the first link in my last post, hopefully.

Yup! I followed that first link and everything is working as expected!! Thanks Claydoh! I guess the installation using Snap wasn't quite the same which was causing me grief.

Thanks again! So simple, yet so complicated!
