Help. Kubuntu 20.04 reboots instead of shutting down. HP Zbook15 G2

    Hello everybody!
I hope you all are doing well.

I have recently changed the OS from Ubuntu 20.04 (GNOME GUI) to Kubuntu 20.04 (KDE Plasma) and Windows 10 with dualboot.

I had been using Kubuntu with no updates (even with no NVIDIA proprietary driver installed) for 2 weeks or so and never noticed any bugs. So I decided to update the system. Right after the update (used sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade) I faced the following problem: machine turns off and then reboots in a second, thus leading me to the SDDM Login Screen.
I installed package named "laptop-mode-tools" and it solved the problem... for a while (1 week of adequate shutdown).

I am facing this problem of rebooting instead of shutdown again and nothing seems to work properly.
I tried using sudo shutdown now, but it didn't work.

I have to mention, I have Windows 10 installed as 2nd OS (dualboot), and it shutdowns the machine properly. More than that, I never faced this problem while using Ubuntu 20.04.

I suppose, you are probably interested in the result of inxi -Fxzd command to get started (hope that helps):

It probably won't fix things (but it might)
But be sure when updating via the command one to use apt full-upgrade, else you run the chance of not having all updates installed.

This could be from a recent kernel upgrade, to the newer 5.8
. You can try selecting a previous version of your 5.4 kernel via the Grub boot menu, and see if there is any difference, if properly updating does not fix things.

      Ok, for some troubleshooting:

Are you using the gui or the power button to attempt to shut down?

With dual graphics, are you using the on-board or the dedicated Nvidia - sometimes this is solved by installing the proprietary Nvidia drivers.

Try these commands and see if they shut the laptop off correctly

      Code:
      sudo shutdown -h now
      or
      Code:
      shutdown -P now

Thank you very much for your answer.
        I tried
        Code:
        sudo apt full-upgrade
, but it didn't change anything.

        The first command
        Code:
         sudo shutdown -h now
didn't work out on the kernel 5.4.0-64 - it rebooted.
        but the command
        Code:
        shutdown -P now
managed to power the laptop off properly

After that I tried to boot with older kernel in grub. It shuts down properly (managed to shut down properly 5 times).
I guess it works fine so far.

But what could possibly be reason? Newer kernel bug, laptop power controller?
I would be thankful for any hint or idea, cause this appears to be quite unpredictable behavior for shutting down process.

          answering your questions,

I usually use GUI and/or shutdown now command
I am using Nvidia proprietary driver 390.141

Thank you for your advice on full-upgrade command - I will use this one next time

Not sure, usually these, in your case, are minor updates that provide mainly security fixes, so only have the most minimal of changes.
            It would take some research.
