    Browser Performance

    All

    I was on 18.04 and recently used the steps in this thread https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showth...4-Update-Found to upgrade to 20.04. Everything is great except both FireFox and Google Chrome web browsing performance is horrible. I don't think its a network issue as I can open VLC and play a web stream fine with no stutter or anything and file copies across my home network to a Samba share go quick too. I removed Chrome (apt purge) and deleted directories for in in .cache and .config and then reinstalled thinking maybe something got corrupted, but it still performs slow. Then went to FF to see how it was doing and am getting similar performance issues with it too.

    Any ideas on what to try next?

    Thanks

    Try running it from a live medium - or do a "temporary" install on a smallish partition - and see if does the same?

      Ok I tried that and got the same thing. I found this - https://askubuntu.com/questions/1230...extremely-slow - turns out there is a bug in 20.04.0. The kernel is using a backported module for my wireless card. When I remove it and use the one in the 5.4 kernel it seems to fix the issue. Will monitor and report back.

      This is my wireless setup

      Code:
      [FONT=monospace]$ ethtool -i wlp2s0
      driver: iwlwifi
      version: 5.4.0-28-generic
      firmware-version: 36.77d01142.0
      expansion-rom-version:
      bus-info: 0000:02:00.0
      supports-statistics: yes
      supports-test: no
      supports-eeprom-access: no
      supports-register-dump: no
      supports-priv-flags: no[/FONT]
