    Printer for Kubuntu 20.04

    Hi,

I need a new printer for my Kubuntu 20.04 and later 22.04.
The following models would meet my needs:

    HP Smart Tank 7005
    Xerox B310
    Xerox B235

Can anyone recommend these models or have good or bad experiences with them on Kubuntu?
    Thank you

I don't have any experiences with those specific printer models, but looking briefly at the HP and Xerox websites I could not find a driver for the HP Smart Tank 7005 and Linux, and only a "PPD" for the Xerox B235. For the Xerox B310 there is a driver in either .deb or .rpm format for Linux on the Xerox website (you would need .deb for Kubuntu).

If I have had problems with printers and Linux in the past it has always been with "all-in-one" devices, but this could just be my personal experience, of course.

Making a heavy assumption that the 7005 is in the same series as the 7000 smart tank, the 7005 probably already has drivers built in on Linux -- but not for 20.04 (without upgrading from the HP drivers and software available there)

For the Xerox, it is good that they both have driver files available, and are recent -- the PPD file for the 310 is the driver, just without an installer, or any utility software. In the printer setup utility , you can select a PPD file manually, so this should not be an issue.
However, the question of scanning support is not at all clear, at least from the desktop. Copying should be fine. Scanning to the desktop is completely separate, and different drivers are involved.

Personally, I'd be torn as to which to choose. The HP - again making assumptions -- will have much better software and utilities via the HPLIP software. The Xerox 310 won't have any. The b235 will have printing software utilities as well as drivers in the deb. Scanning probably will work for the HP, via the HPLIP software, but not out of the box on 20.04.

Actually, I think I'd go with the laser printer, but partly for the challenge. OK, mostly for the challenge
But the HP is arguable the better supported one, with some extra work that might be a bit cumbersome for many
