Hi everyone,
I’ve published a community edition of Birdtray, based on version 1.11.4, with fixes for the unread-mail counter occasionally stopping its updates.
It retains the familiar features: an unread counter in the system tray, hiding and restoring Thunderbird, folder-specific colors, and other options—all without requiring a Thunderbird extension.
I’ve been using it for several weeks on Kubuntu 26.04 with Plasma 6 and X11, and it has been working well.
The release includes an amd64 .deb package, source code, and documentation in English and Spanish. The original GPLv3 license and author credits are retained.
Project and downloads:

If you try it, I’d appreciate your feedback and any bug reports.
Thanks!
