    [Post-Install] KCalc

    Problem 1:
If I do any calculation, such as
    1 + 1 =

and I try to copy the result by clicking Edit -> Copy
the result doesn't get copied to the clipboard. This was working with Kubuntu 24.04

    Problem 2:
    If I press 1000
    press divide
    press 5
press the exponent button (it is written x 10^y on the button)
    press 8

the result is 20,000,000,000 (20 billion)

    instead of 2e-06
    OS=Kubuntu 24.04 CPU=Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz L3 = 32 MB RAM=24 GB
    GPU=AMD RX 6800 16 GB
HDD=It's not 1 TB. It's 931 GB. Do the math!
For Ubuntu/Kubuntu, get rid of the Spectre crap mitigations to get full CPU performance.Run lscpu. Notice the lines starting with Vulnerability. Do you have the word "mitigation". That's bad. Edit the file /etc/default/grub. You might find the line that says

As to getting KCalc to display results as scientific notation:

    Adjusting Precision Limits

If you want KCalc to seamlessly switch to scientific notation only when numbers exceed a specific length:
    • Go to Settings → Configure KCalc...
    • Under the General tab, look for Precision (Maximum number of digits displayed).
    • KCalc is designed to automatically trigger scientific notation (e.g., 2.34e12) once a calculated number surpasses this defined digit threshold. You can lower this value if you want it to trigger sooner.
Making this setting change doesn't affect what you have already displayed. You can Edit the entered values and delete the last one and reenter that input and the output will change to scientific notation.

      I can reproduce this behavior.
It doesn't work to highlight and right click copy.
It doesn't work to highlight --> click Edit --> Copy in the Main Toolbar.
It does work with this: Ctrl+C

I haven't searched yet. Is there a bug report for this?

I found one bug report, but it's from 2024, shows it's assigned, but that's it. Only the initial report. It is with Kcalc on KDE neon. So based on this one report from 2024, seems that this issue has been around for some time! Bug 492680 can't copy calculation result as expected

          i just tried it , if i go 1+1 = the answer is 2
if i highlight the 2 and press ctrl+c ,it copies to clipboard

also if i go 1+1 the answer shows below (2) , if i then click in the block with the 2 in , it'll blink , then press ctrl+c it copies the 2 to clipboard (no need to highlight the 2)

You actually don't need to press ctrl+c. The act of clicking in that box copies the value to the Clipboard. I just verified that.

I tried it. It copies nothing to the clipboard.
I see a clipboard entry but there is nothing. I look at the clipboard by clicking the paper clip on the system tray.

I see the same, but if I mark the calculation I want to copy, then right click and copy, it shows up in the clipboard.

I have a vague recollection that vanadiumboy is using X11 rather than Wayland; could this be the issue?

No it shouldn't be. If anything, it *might* have been the other way around (automatically putting the value in the clipboard), but years ago.

                      But may be relevant:

I can repro this in both Wayland and x11 in a VM.

I am using Wayland but I think this is a programming problem with KCalc. I have KCalc 25.12.3 (comes with Kubuntu 26.04). They have probably made too many changes.
Copying and pasting is a typical operation.
I think what is needed is some automated testing methods. A calculator is a simple app and should not have bugs, sort of like how your physical calculator is bug free (or nearly).

This is an old bug report I made. Try it with your current KCalc (It works fine for me, it should give 900)

did you see my post above? try mark the numbers you want to copy, then right click and select copy from the drop-down menu. At least a work-around.
