    [Post-Install] Kubuntu 26.04 - Numlock ON

    With Kubuntu 18.04, 20.04, 24.04, the technique to turn on the Numlock during boot time was to open file
    /etc/sddm.conf

    put
    Numlock=on

    at the top of the file and save.

    With Kubuntu 26.04, this doesn't seem to have an effect on the Numlock.
    OS=Kubuntu 24.04 CPU=Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz L3 = 32 MB RAM=24 GB
    GPU=AMD RX 6800 16 GB
    HDD=It's not 1 TB. It's 931 GB. Do the math!
    For Ubuntu/Kubuntu, get rid of the Spectre crap mitigations to get full CPU performance.Run lscpu. Notice the lines starting with Vulnerability. Do you have the word "mitigation". That's bad. Edit the file /etc/default/grub. You might find the line that says

    Launch System Settings. Click on Keyboard. Change NumLock on Startup to Turn on. Click Apply.

    Still in System Settings, click on Colors & Themes > Login Screen (SDDM) > Apply Plasma Settings > Apply and enter your password. When that window closes, if the Apply button is active, click it.

        Wow, that works.
        I can't believe a GUI solution was implemented for this after so many years or that installing a program called numlockx and it doesn't work and people suggesting to change the kernel and recompile the kernel.

          Well actually, this has been a setting in KDE for SDDM for quite some time, for many years, actually. 20.04 or earlier. A bit hidden and under-mentioned, perhaps.......

          Don't forget to check your BIOS for a setting for this, many do have it as an option there as well so you can have it on as soon as you power up.

          And I kinda wanna meet the ones who said to compile a kernel . maybe ***wayyy*** back in the day, before my time.
