[Pre-Install] Can't install Kubuntu bootloader

Completely new to Linux (or at the very least installing it from scratch). I created a USB boot drive with Rufus (and later balenaEtcher) and tried to install Kubuntu onto my Asus laptop. Sadly I was hit with error code 1. Manually setting a partition for the EFI and disabling Secure Boot didn't help either. Any solutions?

Besides EFI, did you set up any other partitions? If so, what partition or partitions?

Please tell us if you are setting up on an empty drive or you are intending to dual-boot with other o/s's, please give us more info to help you.
