Hey there,
My clawbot solved the issue after a lot of back 'n forth :
KRDP server-side (with a manually generated TLS certificate because the KCM was too minimal)
Tailscale for the tunnel
Remmina Flatpak client-side (to enable H.264, otherwise KRDP refuses to communicate)

Ok I really meant KRFB KRDP, the server.

Remmina is a client. KRDC is also a client.

IIRC it was replaced by Remmina during the beta phase of Kubuntu 26.04 LTS - don't ask me why…

remmina is installed in 26.04, but krdc is still available in the repositories.

I thought Kubuntu included KRDC by default; maybe I am wrong here. It is everywhere else, but but my 26.04 was an upgrade.

Tailscale is awesome; I use it myself. I use it to access my brother's home network back in the US. I used to SSH into my mini -pc there, when it was working. My brother replaced it with a Windows box, though I should get him to enable remote desktop access to that.

If you just need to restart a service, do consider looking at a simpler SSH access setup, as an option as well. It can be less of a hassle and often can be done via a very simple and basic script. , if not just a single command -- which can be shortened by using an alias. Fun stuff, and easy to learn and do

Hello, Thanks for your inputs.
I need to access via Remmina and I have already figured out that I need kdrc, which I have installed on the server ( Kubuntu 26.04LTS). After that there was a 'Remote Desktop' tab in Settings; and it is on now with RDP.
I have Tailscale to secure the connexion.
I aim at relaunching a service remotely if something fails.
The server is fitted with Openclaw, which is going to be its main job. It is a mini PC (NUC with 8Go RAM).

By remotely, do you mean on your local network, or from outside that?

You have a Remote Desktop server (KRDP) option in System Settings. It uses RDP and works well with Wayland, at least it does for me. I use it to access my Kubuntu PC when it is inconvenient to switch monitor inputs on my dual-screen/dual PC setup here. Mostly from my main PC (KDE neon), my laptop (KDE Linux), as well as from my phone using aRDP.

I still do mainly use SSH between all the computers, but it is often easier / more fun to access the desktop remotely. I do so almost every day. I have not tried to access my Kubuntu box from Windows, so I can't attest to how well that works, or doesn't. That involves booting to W11, eeew.

What does not work is having remote access to the login screen. SDDM does not support this sort of thing at all, and its replacement, Plasma Login, does not have such a feature yet, as it is still early days.

I dislike Teamviewer, as I feel it is crap these days, when it used to be pretty decent Back In The Day. It still may be a useful option for you and is popular.

RustDesk is a very popular option these days, but I have not tried it. It is more involved, though there may be some scripts or how-tos that simplify this.

I use exclusively either ssh or TeamViewer for remote access, so unfortunately I cannot be of further assistance here…

However, I think it would be important for others to know

• what the primary purpose of the remote access is,
• whether you already have an idea of how you intend to implement this,
• and what steps you have already taken.

PS: Unfortunately, graphical remote access under Wayland can still have its quirks - if this is the case, perhaps try X11 instead.

Hello there,
I need to setup my mini PC so I can access it remotely. What is the configuration path for this ?
I have spent an hour trying to figure it out. There are plenty of doc for gnome, but nothing for our beloved KDE.
