A few noob questions

Tip 1: edit the file in Kate, not the terminal. You'll be promoted for your password when saving.

That is what I did, I just pasted the above line in. It works fine now, I'm just asking if that single line can be added to the out-of-the box grub file so that other users don't stumble across the same issue.

Some distros do use BTRFS as a default. I also will bet that some do NOT support the "legacy" bios booting, and /or don't actually use grub (which has both plusses and minuses, more minuses for newbies imo). This problem also exists on LVM and other situations involving file systems that Grub cannot write to.

Basically it does stink, but it is a minor smell. And you would need to get Ubuntu as whole to change it. It hasn't been in ~6+years.

Now, one could use a separate /boot partition, which then complicates things like full disk encryption, which would get 10x, or really 110x, more complaints than the 30-second timeout does. More work for the new user. And adds another layer to having snapshots, since /boot would not be included in those. And more work for the new user to figure out.
Other distros are probably doing this "old school" partitioning setup.

Again, that is something Kubuntu isn't likely to do as it likely strays too far from the Ubuntu base.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, and maybe my request is silly. I just didn't want to create an email for hundreds of people. And it says, that page is for "developers".

For the num-lock, the Plasma "Settings" already have that as a GUI. Does that not work, or why would I edit a file?

It is a mailing list so everyone would get a copy of the email.
The request doesn't seem silly to me. IMO, a modern desktop OS should be GUI focused.
If you want to update GRUB, there should be something in System Settings where you edit that grub file, click save & and compile, and it would run update-grub automatically.
If you wan to change add and remove repositories, there should be a GUI (There is already a GUI in Kubuntu).
Do you want to change the time and date? There should be a GUI (There is already a GUI in Kubuntu).
Do you want to turn off UTC? I think it should always be left on.
All updates should be done through Discover. Discover should also offer multiple versions of apps, old versions, new versions.

The Numlock in System Settings is for the session.
If jake wants the Numlock off. If Bill wants the Numlock on when he logs in.

The sddm.conf file is to turn ON the Numlock when the OS boots up, when you are at the password screen.

Maybe this gets resolved once Ubuntu goes to btrfs by default?

Is there an appropriate way as a user to suggest that to Ubuntu then? I mean not an insider (=developer) mailing list. Their forum doesn't seem to have such section.

TBH, if it requires all those CLI commands to make Kubuntu good, why not implement that to begin with? i was hoping (K)ubuntu is aimed at people that want to just use the PC and not use CLI for what seems simple tasks.

I won't implement the recommended things since I want to judge Kubuntu by how it works out of the box for a normal user.

I also don't understand why they recommend CLI commands, if some (like enabling flatpak) can be done with GUI. Looks like a skill filter or gate-keeping to have a new user enter all the terminal commands.
