    [Pre-Install] The needed RAM specifications

I see Ubuntu now requires 26.04 to have 6GB or RAM, but they cite that's because of Gnome upgrades. My Kubuntu has been OK on 24.04 (sometimes freezes if I'm on a website using mega resources, but otherwise OK). Will 26.06 run OK on 4GB of RAM? I only have 4GB and that's the max my motherboard can take (already upgraded from 2GB a few years ago).

i have a dual core laptop from 2010 with 4gig ram and i'm on 25.10 , never had any issues ...mind you i've put in a SSD
i'm pretty sure 4gig will run just fine on 26.xx also

Awesome. Yeah I have an SSD too which has been the big difference maker in my experience.

4gb is probably OK; things shouldn't be too different from 24.04. If you are seeing issues in 24.04, you may see them a bit more often, but likely not significantly so.

In my opinion and experience, 6Gb is the honest minimum for consistent and decent use, in a general daily use case (more than just web browsing). Plasma is not a lightweight DE, even it might not be heavy one, either.

Xorg vs Wayland should not factor into this much, if at all. Xorg is a separate service running, while Wayland is a protocol implemented in Kwin, and kwin is running either way.

You might consider looking at a system monitor when using a browser, and seeing if you are hiottiong swap too hard too early,

If so, look at the Dark Kittten's how-to, it has a method to help reduce thjat.

If you are using an SSD, create a 16gb swap file. That should allow you to stay at 4GB with only a minor slowing of performance as its likely your memory is rather slow by modern standards anyway.
