    Probably.
But what do you mean by directories, orrather, where do you see this?

efibootmgr shows the boot items that the BIOS sees, not directories.

I will wager that these two boot items are actually the same exact boot entry, or boot the same thing, rather. Perhaps stale boot files from previous OS installs, maybe.

No, only the efi partition (/bootg/efi) uses this.

Thanks for the clarifications. Yes, efibootmgr shows both items, and on one computer they are the same, on the other they are not. Definitely not from previous OS installs -- on both I have only the OEM Windows installation with Kubuntu added.

ACTUALLY now that I think of it, the one with DIFFERING efi items has an SSD that I imaged from the OEM drive, and on that particular system I installed Kubuntu 25.04 first THEN upgraded to 25.10. I started noticing some weirdness with grub after the upgrade to 25.10.

Note that UEFI firmware can be buggy. My desktop gets a lot of UEFI entries generated for removable media and hard drives that no installer would have made, and they come back unpredictably if I clean them out.
