[Software] Will "Paste on selection" ever be possible on Kubuntu 25.10 w/Wayland? (with Klipper)

That is literally the sole reason why I can't daily drive Kubuntu (I think I told the reason in my first post? idk)

Also, I wanna use Kubuntu with KDE Plasma 6 because I'm a Windows user (I'm sorry) and the Plasma environment is just so good, especially as a Windows user, and Wayland does seem to be just better than x11 (from my poor research)

On Kubuntu 25.10, with Plasma 6.4.x? No.

If/when this is implemented, it will be in a later Plasma release, and static release types of distros like Kubuntu won't see this. It would be in a later Kubuntu release.
After a new Kubuntu release, there can be 'backports' to a previous Kubuntu release, but this is not guaranteed. These would come from an extra addon repository that would need to be added.

Regular non-LTS Kubuntu releases only have 9 months of life, with fresh ones every 6 months. 25.10 becomes End of Life in July.

While I do wholeheartedly agree, it is not a universal truth. Some people have very specific usage needs where X11 is still the better choice. Luckily, it is extremely easy to switch between the two and test what works for you, your hardware, and use cases. I am not sure if this issue is specific to Wayland, though. However, there are other clipboard managers out there (CopyQ is a popular one) that probably do what you want, in X11 at least.

If it happens that Plasma can't do what you want, use what does instead.

But even though there have been attempts to handle this situation, do remember that Plasma and KDE are volunteer efforts here. Things can take time and possibly not even happen if no one is able to, or wants to tackle it.

Thanks a ton for your comment!

It's still mind boggling to see how much stuff the Linux community is able to achieve. I highly respect that. It's just that one single detail making me unable to daily drive Linux is just heartbreaking to say the least. Each time I'm booting Windows now everything feels sluggish and set in stone (i.e. I'm unable to change anything to the extend I could in Kubuntu).

Maybe one day this one single issue can be solved and I can finally jump back to Linux and never look back (although it does seem like this has been an issue for over 5 years now lmao)
I wish all of you volunteers working on this massive Linux project best of luck!

"Paste on selection" (often referred to as middle-click paste or primary selection paste) is a feature primarily found in terminal emulators, Linux environments, and specialized Windows tools (like PowerToys or specific command-line terminals). It enables users to instantly paste highlighted text by clicking the middle mouse button (or pressing both left and right buttons simultaneously) without needing to explicitly copy the text to the clipboard first.
"Paste on selection" (selecting text to automatically copy, and middle-clicking to paste) is a long-standing feature of the X Window System in Linux and is supported by default in the vast majority of Linux distributions, particularly those using GNOME, KDE, or XFCE desktop environments.

Most Linux terminal emulators (such as gnome-terminal, konsole, xfce4-terminal, and termite) support this "primary selection" buffer.

This works on both my Kubuntu 24.04.3 LTS and Kubuntu 25.10 installs with Plasma (X11) and Plasma (Wayland).
Windows no longer obstruct my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

          I don't understand this thread.

If by "Paste on Selection" the OP means what Snowhog and I call middle-click paste, that's been a part of X11 from it's beginning (maybe the 1980s). Don't tell me Wayland doesn't do it

Maybe the OP means no middle-click is needed, the paste is automatic which would be cool if somewhat dangerous. (I worked with a coder once who avoided the keyboard as much as possible, even selecting "if" to get an if statement.) Is that possible?

            AstralDice ,

No solution for now. Still working on it.
