[Post-Install] Monitor shows graphics at 0%

When I open System Monitor it always shows GPU at zero percent. No matter if I am using the browser or playing a game. Could this be an an Intel vappi driver problem? HP Pavilion dv6 us laptop manufactured in 2009. CPU supports direct x 10. Graphics media accelerator HD version, so better than most as it was designed to play games. It used to run the game Banished just fine but now its like there is no 3D acceleration. I just cleaned the DDR2 RAM modules but it didn't seem to speed it up much. It might have iNcreased the speed slightly but there still is no 3D acceleration.

Google AI says I should do this: Check Renderer: Run glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer". It should list something like Mesa DRI Intel(R) Cantiga Graphics.
I tried that:

You may need to go and edit that sensor widget to point to the correct hardware.

But then you also need to make sure all supported hardware sensors are detected and enabled.

You also may need to install and set up lm-sensors (only the very first part, the rest is not useful.) The System Monitor reads this soirt of info from the kernel reports and configured lmsensors data.

But your gpu probably simply is not supported for this info. Intel iGPUs in my own experience usually don't.


Editing the monitor is a bit tricky/funky/awkward/confusing, and there is no recent and halfway good set of instructions that I can find.

I am thinking it might not be setting up Mesa correctly. One thread from my Google searches said that one person found there was a Mesa override that was incorrect, and they have the same GMA that I have.

Last night I put nvtop in my autostart list, but it failed this morning:


I tried copying and pasting, but it didn't work, so I had to use the Print Screen key.

I915 seems to be present, but I965 might be missing!
EDIT: Just tried to install package i965-va-driver and apt says it's already installed. Perhaps something is misconfigured, or maybe there is some kind of block somewhere.

I just remembered something that might be of help to figure this out. If I run OpenMWLauncher from Steam, it doesn't work, but if I run it outside Steam, it starts up right away and runs very smoothly and fast.
