I am installing Kubuntu 25 as a VM in Hyper-v (running on Widows 11)
I have already successfully installed and got a working system of Ubuntu24.04 LTS, using an external network adapter for Ethernet connection (I am not using WiFi)
I would like to try the KDE desktop, so set about installing KUbuntu as a new VM
I first tried Kubuntu24.04 LTS but had install problems with black screen (much discussion on the internet about this), so I tried the 25 release and managed to get it installed.
I tied it to the same external network switch as the working Ubuntu24.04 (not at the same time!)
I am getting NO network connectivity - internal or external. No IP address is being obtained.
Output from ifconfig reads something like:
eth0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
ether ae:e8:b1:39:68:5e txqueuelen 1000 (EThernet)
RX packets 108 bytes 12732 (12.7 kb)
RX errors 0 dropped 90 overruns 0 frame 0
TX packets 5 bytes 1685 (1.6kb)
TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrier 0 collisions 0
lo_ flags=73<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING> mtu 65536
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0
inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 scopeid 0x10<host>
loop txqueuelen 1000 (Local loopback)
Then RX, TX info - nothing dropped
No sign of any IPv4 address on eth0
I also tried the "default" Hyper-V adapter to no avail.
I can't help thinking that the solution is trivial - some key missing setting .
Any suggestions welcome
Thanks
