    Disable Device Notifier pop-up?

KDE 4.3.2. I like having the Device Notifier plasmoid in the panel, but I don't like having it automatically pop up and having to click on the panel icon to make it go away. Does anyone know of a way to disable the automatic pop-up?

Right-click on the "i" icon in the System Tray and click on System Tray Settings.
Uncheck the item(s) under Pop Up Notices

Thanks, but that just disables pop-ups in the System Tray. Device Notifier isn't in the System Tray, at least not on my desktop: it's just in the panel. Is it possible to move plasmoids into the system tray?

Sorry. I read your post, but mis-read it!

From within the configuration for the widget, there is no way to disable the pop-up behavior. Would defeat the intended purpose of it anyway. Searching (locate) on devicenotifer results, on my system, only the following files:
        /usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_devicenotifier.so
        /usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-applet-devicenotifier.desktop
        /usr/share/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/plasma_applet_devicenotifier.mo
        /usr/share/locale-langpack/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/plasma_applet_devicenotifier.mo

I was afraid of that. I just removed the plasmoid altogether: I don't think I'll miss it.

As for its intended purpose, it seems to me that since KDE4 no longer provides the right-click-on-desktop-icon method of working with a device, it would be nice to have a panel icon that, with one click, gives us the same menu of options. Device Notifier could do that just as well without popping up all the time. I've been serial-ripping CDs today, and it got downright annoying to have that big window obscuring the desktop every time a new CD went in, and having to hunt down the little icon to get rid of it.

            Alternatives
            (KDE 4.3)

            The Linux is alternatives.

            Shortly:
            - The KDE 4 is using a device notifier (or manager) plasmoid to present the options for a new device.
            - The plasmoid will show available actions play/rip/whatever... for a device.
            - Some of the plasmoids have more options than the other.

The Desktop Manager plasmoid have an option to: "Show the popup when a device is inserted" or not to show it.

Earlier > Topic: Kubuntu Karmic does not mount USB device automatically. >> Device Manager.

The "Device Manager" is merged to the "Device Notifier" in the KDE 4.4 ( > device notifier work for 4.4).

Binaries can be found from the PPA /1/ repositories > Show PPAs matching: plasma-widget-device-manager.
