    access denied to /midia [solved]

I just can't have access via Dolphin to the content of some dvds which are films that a friend of mine recorded from VHS tapes. Despite the fact that I'm able to watch those dvds without problem, every time I try to access the content of any of those DVDs I get the message: "access denied to /midia/name of the DVD". How do I get it solved? I'm current using Kubuntu 9.10.

    Alt-F2 and type:
    Code:
    kdesudo dolphin
Enter your password. Dolphin will launch 'as Root' and you can then access the mounted DVD.

        You're welcome.

Be very careful running Dolphin in Root mode. Use it this way when required to operate on root owned files/folders. When you are done doing what you need to do, quit Dolphin - DO NOT CONTINUE TO USE IT for normal purposes while in Root mode.

Right. Good to know it. But, can I make use of the same command line to grant access to other softwares to the DVDs? For example, can I do a 'kdesudo cinelerra'?

Run programs as they were designed to be run. Unless an application requires to be started by 'root' you shouldn't do so. If the program is in the K Menu, just launch it from there normally. If it's a non-GUI application that you run from the command line, execute it normally.

Do not get 'root' happy. That is the fastest way to trash your system.
