Keyboard magically stopped working for only one account?

Hi - running 9.10, been running Kubuntu variants for a couple years on this shared computer in our house. Recently did the KDE upgrade that came through the repositories.

Recently a guest was using the guest account (probably checking email, whatever, nothing serious) and the keyboard stopped working for him in the middle of his work.

Subsequently, the computer starts up fine, and the keyboard works through the window manager, and works (i can tell by turning shift-lock on and off) throughout the KDE startup screen (the blurry->sharp focus sequence) and right at the end of the sequence it stops working. It only behaves like this for the guest account, however. With my own account and other accounts, all seems fine. When the keyboard is not working, everything else seems fine (e.g. mouse). Ctrl-alt-F1, etc, does nothing. Haven't tried REISUB... i'll do that next.

On a potentially-related note, trying to "switch user" caused, the first time i tried it, a spontaneous restart of the computer, and the second time i tried it, a blank screen (no video signal to monitor) and otherwise a freeze. We never use this feature, so no big deal, but still... This is the first time i remember trying that, so it's possible that that has been a bug all along.

    Thanks for any ideas!

Here is .xsession-errors for the guest account... I have no idea what's important and what's not, but it looks to my ignorant eyes like startkde may be dying before finishing, which might explain it? :

Re: Keyboard magically stopped working for only one account?

Have you tried the most obvious solution - recreating the .kde directory by renaming it and starting a new session?

...nope, just did that, and it works again. Thanks! So i take it that it's not worth trying to figure out what exactly happened to cause the problem? I'm satisfied that it's working again, i'd just love for it not to happen again... (the user wasn't doing anything but typing an email in a web browser...)

Anyway, good to go for now, thanks,

Re: Keyboard magically stopped working for only one account?

Yesterday my wife locked Kubuntu keyboard. I gogled and found this topic, but I thought, that to kill .kde and need to do again a lot of settings was not the best solution. So I kept googling and finally found this topic My cat locked my keyboard in KDE! It looked like a funny story, but it really helped.

To delete the file /home/xxx/.kde/share/config/kaccessrc is the whole solution

The guy even knew the reason:
It appears that if a key is pressed for an extended period, a popup with ask if you want to enable slowkeys, apparently my cat answered YES !!

You can turn this (sometimes annoying) accessibility feature off in SystemSettings>Accessibility
