    Kurious Kde Kuestions

I noticed that KDE will be releasing a 5th point release for KDE 4.3 aka 4.3.5

I was just wondering if anyone knows what prompted this? Previous releases only had 4 point releases. Are they hoping it will become the norm?

Speaking of point releases... when Lucid Lynx is released as the next LTS how does that work with KDE? Will the LTS point release roll kde 4.4.5 into a normal update or will it be a backport? (I have never used an LTS before)

    About the KDE Maintance releases

    > KDE wiki
Maintenance releases have three version numbers, e.g. KDE 1.1.1, and focus on fixing bugs, minor glitches and making small usability improvements. Maintenance releases in general do not allow new features although some releases include small enhancements...
There are not "rock solid" rules. There will be maintance releases if:
    - There are open bugs and fixes for those.
    - The developers have time and interest to backport those" small usability improvements"

    Howdy,

I think we should have a 4.3.5 release, and this should
be the final release in the 4.3 series.

    thoughts?
of course, this depends on Dirk and the promo team's holiday schedule.

We should make a decision either way very soon so folks don't
waste their time backporting to the 4.3 branch.

Yep. I just added the following to the 4.3 release schedule page on techbase [1]

    January 21st, 2010: Tag KDE 4.3.5
    January 28th, 2010: Release KDE 4.3.5

Dirk, can you also send out an email telling people that this will happen
and that 4.3 branch is officially "done" after 21 Jan?

    About the -updates vs. -backports

    The LTS is > Releases:
Ubuntu releases are supported for 18 months. Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) releases are supported for 3 years on the desktop, and 5 years on the server.

=> It depends how "good" the KDE 4.4.X is.
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

      Interesting...

does KDE follow and update over the span of a LTS? or do they move on once they get to their next release cycle?
