    Desktop Effects failing/missing Kopete server

I've cleanly installed 9.10 and have been toying around with making it pretty. I've been able to make changes in the appearances section, but when I try applying Desktop effects (ie disabling window thumbnails on plasma panels) I get a notification saying that the following effects "__, ___, ___etc" could not be activated. Although, I can change the number of desktops I have. Desktop Effects seems to be the problem.

Also, in Kopete I don't have an option to select a facebook chat account at all. Is there something I need to do to update Kopete?

Desktop Effects (compositing) is a function of the abilities of your GPU (graphics card/chip). Do you know what manufacture/model of GPU/chip you have? If not, open a console and type:
    Code:
    lspci | grep Graphics

It's a Toshiba Satellite 2345-S255. The command you gave me didn't have any effect, but here's lspci:

      Code:
      jeremy@jak:~$ lspci

It's a few years old, but the graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce4 420.

Yeah, Graphics doesn't appear in the lspci listing, so my command would have returned nothing. However, this is your graphics controller:
        01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 420 Go] (rev a3)
This will be of assistance in seeing if your issue can be resolved satisfactorily.
