Re: Calling all Karmic Users: Do you have a Boot Splash?

This is a Kubuntu issue rather than a KDE one. Unfortunately, it seems that given this doesn't affect people on Ubuntu (although it has nothing to do with KDE) that we're getting a bit of "pass the buck" here.

OK, 6:30 p.m. Eastern time I ran dist-upgrade. Wow -- 281 packages upgraded and 7 new packages installed -- a manly update, indeed!

So, after all that and 50 minutes later, and a reboot, everything came up semi-perfectly:

      - splash as expected
      - normal KDE 4 desktop with my folder view widget
      - a Phonon error message that Pulseaudio doesn't work
      - the KDE 4 greeting tune, played by Pulseaudio
      - my Conky
      - a crash message that Conky crashed (but it didn't)
      - a crash message that kdeinit crashed (I see no evidence of it)
      - Compiz starting according to my script
      - my desktop as previously configured, with Conky, Compiz, working Pulseaudio, the clock telling the correct time, my 7 package launchers on the taskbar where I last put them

It's all good -- you just have to be skeptical about the crash messages. 8)

Sounds like they crashed with exit code 0

Re: Calling all Karmic Users: Do you have a Boot Splash?

After todays update (in Switzerland) I got 170+ packages updates but no splash
and it stole the config bar (top bar) on system settings.
              But that goes elsewhere.

Run it without sudo. The /var/tmp/kdecache-fintan is owned by you, not root.

Yep. It must have updated to 4.3.2 when it came out. I had to update Kubuntu Jaunty to 4.3.2 through the backports.

My Box boots so fast, Boot Splash has about 1.5 seconds before kdm starts..... so rather pointless on fast boxes...
