Issues with compositing - KDE 4.2.85

Is anyone else having issues with compositing in KDE 4.2.85?

At startup compositing is disabled and manually trying to enable only restores it for a brief moment. Alternately, a message pops up telling me that certain effects could not be enabled.

This behaviour did not occur prior to upgrading to 4.2.85.

    Using nvidia driver 185.18.08
    Relevant specs in the sig.

Here, with the Ati/opensource, the compositing seems to work.

Well, I think the problem is not KDE alone. I had issues with nvidia drivers on 2.6.30 from the start, in fact I removed a custom 2.6.30 rc from jaunty because of it. However, on the ubuntu 2.6.30 with uptodate nvidia drivers, KDE 4.2.2 (as it was when I installed karmic) worked, albeit slower than in jaunty. Since upgrading to 4.2.85 however I lost the compositing. Not very annoying, but still it should work.
