    Media server for ps3 [SOLVED}

    It would be nice too be able to play mp3s, videos and photos etc on my PS3 straight from my kubuntu macines. The ps3 has a "search for media servers" option which looks for Windows media player libraries I believe but how to do this in kubuntu. What software should I install and what settings to set. I find it hard to believe windows has the monopoly on hosting media. Thanks for any advice.

    mythtv will make your media available to your PS3 - as will fuppes but I've never tried fuppes.

    IMO mythtv is overkill but any DLNA-compatible media server should work. Here's a list of stuff to try -

      Also, somebody made a .deb package for ps3mediaserver. Linkage here -

        Thanks for the replies, I found the app above which appears to work but I will keep looking and try both the apps you mentioned.

          That's the same software I linked above - but they've got a repo and a .deb package. I installed it and was up and running in about ten minutes.

            it's all working fine now. I read a bit more and installed some mplayer bits which helped it read more file formats.
