    hit cancel on KDEwallet, froze, won't boot to KDE

    Hi all, I've just started with Linux (yay, adventure!!!)
    I was sending an email for the first time with kmail,
    when it asked for a kdewallet password I didn't really want to store my password on the system so I hit cancel
    It told me it could store my password in a configuration file
    I went to click not to store my password, but the system was non-responsive. I could move the cursor, but couldn't click anything. I also tried ctrl-F2, but got no response.
    I waited a few minutes, but eventually had to do a hard reboot.
    when the system comes to the point of restarting KDE the default wallpaper comes up (I had changed it), and on the window in center screen the hard drive logo comes up, but the system freezes before the "tools" icon fades in.

    I can boot to a command line, but I'm unable to bring up KDE.
    If I type "startkde" I get the message "$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server".
    If I type "xinit" I get a blank screen, and have to hard reboot.
    If I type "startx" It begins to load KDE, but freezes on the splash screen as described above.

    Any advice would be most appreciated

    <SOLVED>

    It seems my user settings were messed up. I renamed ~/.kde to ~/.kde-old and rebooted. Works
