    desktop missing

    I installed kubuntu 9.1

Since I didn't want a whole new set of users, I re-installed over a previous installation. Not formatting the partitions. Keeping myself as root user of course.

However, my desktop is missing. How do I get the desktop back?

I just have a terminal window. No internet connection.

In the terminal type the following:
    sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
    Then reboot.

I'm afraid you will need to reformat and start again. Make sure you backup your home directory before this step.
