    AMD Athlon II X4 620 Quad-core not recogized in v9.10

    Just purchased:
    AMD Athlon II x4 620 (quad core)
    Asus M2N68-AM SE2
    OCZ 4gb DDR2 PC8800 1100MHZ (2x2gb)

    Installed distribution:
    Kubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10
    Linux bmw-desktop 2.6.31-11-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 25 06:37:23 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    All current updates installed

    Please advise!!!

    System is only showing 1 working CPU

    Hmm thats not good. Appears the kernel may have been compiled for only one core.
    To the best of my knowledge the kernel its self should accept what ever CPU the motherboard does.
    It says SMP, but I dont always believe everything I read :-)
    Check kernel.org for any information on this.

      As far as I know, the chipset of your mother board does not support athlon II processor out-of-box.

      Try install windows to see if your MB supports AthlonII or not, you may need to install a firmware update, and the firmware updater may be a windows-only software.

        run sudo dmidecode. That'll show you every device presented by the BIOS to the kernel.

          Doubt that. TigerDirect sells this MB w/the processor, so ...
