audigy SB on 9.04: fix or pitch?

I have no sound on my dell e520, haven't for some time. tried upgrading to 9.04, nothing, installed soundblaster and am told it "does not work, falling back to pulse audio." That doesn't work either. Have tried MANY patches, none of which work, and I'm wondering if I need to throw computer away and start with another, remove soundblaster, or wait for 9.10 and hope for a miracle. These are most recent printouts:

    Just

    Code:
    kdesudo kate /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
    and add

    Code:
    options snd-hda-intel model=ref
    Reboot and enjoy

    Cheers!

Re: audigy SB on 9.04: fix or pitch?

Tried adding options snd-hda-intel model=ref and it still doesn't work. I've checked all the volumes, downloaded patches and new programs, bought a new sound card (it is detected but the system says "audio playback device does not work, falling back to pulse audio" and THAT doesn't work. I tried shifting it to another socket and disabling HDA intel and THAT didn't work. Can it be that this hardware is just broken somehow?
