Dragonplayer crashes when opening in Jaunty 64

I have a recurring problem with dragonplayer in that it crashes each and every time I try and open it. I had no problem on 32 bit system, but my new comp is 64 and this problem is prevalent. Now I can also use mplayer and kaffiene, but I would like to know if this is happening to anybody else and/or how to solve it. Thanks.

To get more information / error messages

    1) Start the application from the konsole.

    With the Dragonplayer:
    Code:
    dragon --help
    Usage: dragon Qt-options KDE-options URL

A video player that has a usability focus
    ...
    Options:
    --play-dvd Play DVD Video
    --debug Show Additional Debug Output

    What tells ?:
    Code:
    dragon --debug

    2) Turn the apport on

    > Apport - automatic crash reports

    ...
    How to enable apport

Apport is not enabled by default in stable releases, even if it is installed. There are two ways to enable it.

If you want to debug a specific program once, just do:

    sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport restart

Then you can simply trigger the crash again, and Apport's dialog will show up with instructions to report a bug with traces. Apport will be automatically disabled on next start...
    Any useful information ?

Well I know now that it has to do with compositing. As this doesn't happen when I switch it off. So it may not even be a dragonplayer error, but maybe nvidia.

Re: Dragonplayer crashes when opening in Jaunty 64

Sorry I will copy/move this to the Karmic 9.10 thread.

No Jaunty here. This is Karmic 9.10 with updated KDE SC 4.4. My DragonPlayer doesn't crash. It does open up, but doesn't play the dvd. Any thoughts?

This is what I get in Konsole after entering: "dragon --play-dvd":

I see here just above "Encrypted DVD support unavailable". It is a store bought/pre-recorded dvd, B.H. 90210. Anyone see anything else that may help my end HP dv6835nr?

Re: Dragonplayer crashes when opening in Jaunty 64

The console command is incomplete. You need to specify the URL where the DVD is mounted at. On my system, with a DVD inserted and mounted, to play it with Dragon Player from the CLI, I type:
            Code:
            dragon --play-dvd /media/cdrom0
To determine the URL of your mounted DVD, just open Dolphin. The DVD Title will show under Places. Just click on it and the mount point (URL) is in the search bar.

I'd look into if "Restricted Extras" is installed based on the above from his output he posted.

All commercial DVDs are encrypted. That's why you need the non-free libraries and codecs installed.

ok, so what are they called? What shall I enter into the search criterion of Kpackagekit?

                  I found it -- libdvdcss2.

Don't use Kpackagekit. You can do it all from the console. Everything you need to know, and how to do, is on the Medibuntu Community Ubuntu Documentation page.
