    SOLVED - Starting KTTSD Failed

I have been helping a friend installing Kubuntu on his PC and after a lot of help in this forum, it is mainly running very ok.

But he is getting a strange error that I have not seen on any of my own installations:

    Code:
    Starting KTTSD Failed
Am I right when I assume KTTSD has something to do with speech? I have not seen any applications that needs this on his PC...

Any idea how I can get rid of this message? It pops up every few minutes. It is more an annoyance than a huge problem, because he only needs to close the dialog box and the computer works fine another 10 minutes or so and then it pops up again.

    Re: Starting KTTSD Failed

The KDE Text-to-Speech system is a plugin based service that allows any KDE
(or non-KDE) application to speak using the DBus interface.

kmouth is useful front-ends for this capability, while one of
festival, flite, and epos are essential back-ends.

This package is part of KDE 4 accessibility module.

so perhaps something got text to speech enabeld in it's setings and is looking for it?

      Yessir!

Looking through some things, I suddenly got tyhe urge to check the clock settings (analog clock on the desktop). It was set to speak the time every 30 minutes. Turned it off and will now see if it appears again. But I have a feeling it is gone :-)

      Thanks. Marking it solved.

You could also try installing kttsd...

I just went into a root shell and typed apt-get install kttsd.. no more popup and now it speaks the time every 30 mins :P

I went the kttsd install route, we will see if that fixed it. Thanks for the info here!
