    Huge Display/Graphics & Fonts

I am fairly new to Linux and have tried to solve this issue on my own for the last few weeks (I posted this in the Multimedia & Video section and general Installation section of the ubuntuforums.com but didn't get any response).

The problem I have is that when booting into Kubuntu using a 20" LCD Dell monitor, everything looks great, however when booting using an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver, the graphics and fonts are HUGE. The Onkyo receiver is connected to a Samsung 52" LCD HDTV (LN52A850) via HDMI. I'm running Kubuntu 9.04 on an ASUS P5Q-EM motherboard with an Intel G45 onboard graphics chipset. I'm using the HDMI for video and audio output to the receiver. I have Windows XP on dual boot and the display works fine under Windows XP.

I have searched for an answer and believe the problem lies in the EDID that the Onkyo is reporting since there is a line about "Quirked EDID physical size to 0x0 cm."

I have tried multiple combinations of options and settings in the xorg.conf without ANY success. Here's the latest xorg.conf I'm using:

    xorg.conf:
    Code:
    # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.
    #
    # Note that some configuration settings that could be done previously
    # in this file, now are automatically configured by the server and settings
    # here are ignored.
    #
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

      Re: Huge Display/Graphics & Fonts

That's a lot of info bro
But my initial thought on seeing your post was - "probably its a device driver issue"
Have you been able to get it running fine with any other NIX OS ??
Also have you checked for updated device drivers from the vendor for LINUX ??

        Re: Huge Display/Graphics & Fonts

Better late than never, I suppose.

I just had this same problem with U-lite, except only the font was super large. I traced it back to the EDID, much like you did, and found this page:

        Dot per Inch documentation

After reading it, I added the following line to the Screen section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

        Code:
        Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
Hopefully, if you haven't given up on this forum or getting this to work, you can give that a try and see if it works. It worked for me.

          Re: Huge Display/Graphics & Fonts

You'll note, that in his xorg.conf he posted, he did try that:
          Section "Screen"
          Identifier "LCD"
          Device "intel"
          Monitor "TX-SR606"
          # Option "UseEDID" "False"
          Option "UseEDIDDpi" "FALSE"
          Option "DPI" "96 x 96"
          DefaultDepth 24
          SubSection "Display"
          Modes "1920x1080" "1280x720"
          EndSubSection
          EndSection
But note also, that the mixed case isn't as you suggested, so maybe...
