No sound in Firefox Flash movies

    Hello,

Today I started with fresh Kubuntu 9.04 install, updated Amarok to install the audio/video codecs, and successfully tested simple playback of mp3 files. When I installed the firefox flash plugin, video works fine, but there is no sound.

Googling for this problem I've found several places where different solutions are suggested, I tried some of them, but no luck. Don't want to try all of suggestions either, cause am afraid to break something. The suggested solutions are so many that any one of them looses authority in my eyes.

It's kind of odd that the flash plugin does not work out of the box. Does there exist a good explanation of this problem, and a newbie-friendly checklist how to solve this? I imagine something like couple of console commands that provide information that confirms that the system configuration indeed is such that the "well known flash audio problem" is present, and then couple of console commands that would fix it.

    Thanks!

Well, that's odd, because just removing the flash.* packages and installing them again really fixed the flash sound. That's great, of course, but what I dislike about this is that it's sort of "it works, I have no idea why, but I don't care" solution, at least for me. I never assumed that I have to first install the plugin, find out that there's no sound, then do some dark stuff that doesn't give results, and then reinstall the plugin.

Who knows, perhaps that dark stuff what I did fixed the context, and plugin reinstall was what put the fix in order.

u shure that the flash pakage was broken when u downloaded it, so qhen u reintalled it ti fixed
        i might also be that
u changed something to ur sound driver after intalling the flash so the flash sound didnt get the changes

i belive that this code would have worked to

dpkg -reconfigure -a flashplugin-(something like that)

lol but dont mind most of linux probles get fixed like this (but no all )
so welkome to the forums and linux im glad i could help

I am so sick of dealing w/ no sound in flash using *nix. I've been using mint Kde for the past 6 months and gave up on sound. I need it for school and decided to come back to kubuntu, I've dealt w/ it in the past and usually gotten the sound working. I've done every thing recommended and still have no sound w/ flash.

          aagghhh!!!

and now I come home from work and magically everything works... . So someday when *ubuntu has a real audio system that just works, I'm sure I will look back with fond memories and laugh.

I did another fresh install and did the remove right from the start, works w/ my headphones. I haven't tried my usb speakers yet, if they don't work it'll be headphones only.

I got exactly the same problem. In Kubuntu 10.04 x64 the sound works in Amarok, but not in flash ... Re-installing flash did not helped. I found eventually that this solution worked for me: http://www.shcherbyna.com/?p=866

Nothing works for this problem. I have even completely uninstalled the pulseaudio and Nothing works. I am pulling out my hair. someone has to have a solution for this thing. What can I do. I have consulted my books, looked all over online for 3 days now, and still have found nothing.

Re: No sound in Firefox Flash movies

Well. for me in order to get flash sound to work (and for Boxee as well) I actually had to install pulseaudio. I also switched to 32 bit as flash in general works more reliably, as does Boxee. Flash in 64 bit is either running the 32bit flash with a sometimes flaky compatibility layer, or using an alpha version of the 64 bit (which is now no longer developed by Adobe - they have dropped support for it)

volodymyr's link looks like it's worth a try, though
