    install packages on kubuntu

    Hi ,
I've used linux only for some programming in the past and so I never really had to install packages. I installed kubuntu on my laptop today and the installation went fine using wubi. However, I can't seem to play mp3s, view videos on youtube, play video files. I can hear system log on and log off sounds though. Can anyone help with the installation of software to help me get all this up and running ? I really need to know how to install packages on kubuntu. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

    Thanks.

      Don't forget to include Medibuntu.

Most software will be available through the repositories.
And you can access those repositories through a package manager.

The best package manager is Synaptic, KDE (Kubuntu) used Adept, presently we are seeing the introduction of KPackageKit but it's not ready for daily use.

When you go into the K-manu to the System Settings you'll find something called Add/Remove...Package Manager and that's where you could start, from here you could even install the other Package Managers I just mentioned.

And yes, search google for how to use Medibuntu in Kubuntu, Medibuntu has a repository specifically for Multi Media applications.
