Kmail ghost comes up and will not easily shut down after installing 9.04

Hi (I have asked this question also on the install child board - but got no answer as yet - perhaps it fits better here?)

I installed Kubuntu 9.04 on a HP laptop (I did not upgrade, but did a new install). Installation went fine, but there was some problem which showed within one day after installing - broken link or something. I did notice that Kmail opened and would not shut down. I did try Cntr, Alt + Esc, no joy. After a day or two, I decided to re-install. This went well again. I installed synaptic, F/fox, as well as some other programs which I like (Kstars, Abiword, Krename etc.) and got the bug-fixes and security updates.

However - Kmail tends to appear everytime I boot the PC and will not shut down.
Any ideas why? Is it a bug - is there a bugfix? Should I live with it?

    Hi,

Firstly, to kill kmail open konsole and type:

    ps ax

on the left hand side of the process listing there are 4 digit pid numbers, then just do

    kill -9 <number>

Also, pkill kmail will kill all kmail processes.

Unless you have kmail set to start in system-settings or minimised in system tray it should not start at all.

If you have Session Management set to use a saved or previous session, it will cause kmail to open. Go to System Settings / Advanced / Session Manager and change settings there

        - found pid numbers, typed all in - no joy - also pkill included - tuti - nope! Kmail sticks around.

Then went to session manager - changed it so that it will open blank / no previous session - applyed
        Now for the interesting part
on reboot Kmail comes up again at around the same time as the opening sound activates during boot process - but at the very end of the final boot? / full screen, after activating widgets on bottom bar and around 5 seconds later, then Kmail goes away - it looks like a activation blip turning and tossing? like other programs when they start to activate, but Kmail disappears at end of process. Rebooted a few times and gets the same result. Later on now, Kmail is back just like the cat who wouldn't go away.
        any ideas?
        So,
