    Kpackagekit Error & Shutdown ?s

New download & install. When I open Kpackagekit and try to see packages, I get this error:
"The backend took to much time to process the synchronous request- You need to Fork"
What? Besides not sounding nice, what is Fork? Do I need to reinstall?

When I shutdown the last screen reads "Will now halt. halt: unable to iterate IDE devices: no such file or directory
    System Halted."
    Is this right?
    Thanks,
    L.A.

I'm having the exact same issues on my older laptop, maybe not enough resources?

        As a workaround try Synaptic.

        sudo apt-get update
        sudo apt-get install synaptic

Hi I had the same problem.
when I tried to install an update it would not work
I tried it the second time and pressed the activate button on the pop up window and it has been working fine since then
