Adobe Air anyone?

I like using Twihrl for Twitter updates, but that requires Adobe Air. Has anyone tested that on 9.04 yet?

A bit eager to get going on Twitter again, so I took a chance and installed Air and twhirl. So far, so good. No issues. I have heard that there might be some problems if you use desktop effects, but I am not into that yet :-)

For some reason, after several crashes yesterday, when I booted my laptop today I had nVidia driver 180 installed. Not only that, but the desktop effects were turned on. So I got the same problem as a lot of other people when I minimized and tried to restore Twhirl. But after a restart I just turned off desktop effects and I have my normal functions back. I can definitely live with this until I have the drivers updated.

I blew away my rock solid, well broken in kubuntu 8.04 install and upgraded to 9.04. I hope it wasn't a mistake!

When installing AIR, I'm receiving a message:

"Sorry, an error has occured
Adobe AIR could not be installed. Either gnome-keyring or Kwallet must be installed prior to installing Adobe AIR."

Did you find a workaround to the apparent compatibility issue with the new version of kwallet?

I'm running Adobe Air on 9.04 to use Destroy Twitter (a great Twitter app, if you haven't seen it). It runs without any problems for me and I can minimize/restore and use desktop effects without a problem.

That depends on a few of things:

1. If you have an nVidia board

2. If you are using the 180 driver

3. If you are using desktop effects

This combintation has not been too good.

Really? I am running Kubuntu on a Macbook Pro which has an nVidia card, is using the 180 driver and has loads of desktop effects running! If there's a problem running Air for some people, I don't think it can just be down to these three things: there must be some other factor too.

Well, I think I figured out my problem...

Executing the Adobe AIR installer as root continued to give me the error about requiring kwallet.

Just for kicks, I executed the installer from the command line without using sudo and let the system prompt me for my password via the GUI. This method worked, and AIR installed. I'm not sure why it matters, but I guess you have to execute the installer as a regular user.

After installing AIR, in installed Thwirl. Twhirl seems to be working just fine!

No. This is a confirmed problem. I am using a lot of desktop effects too. This is not the problem. Adobe Air has a problem in combination with the things I mentioned before. There are ways around it, but the problem is still there.

This worked for me too. Although I did receive the following error:
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module": /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libcanberra-gtk-module.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

Brilliant! I just tried this way, installing without "sudo", and it installed! I'd already tried four times with "sudo" and got an error message about needing to be the administrator (which of course I am).
