    Could not find requested component

    KDE 4.2 beta2 (4.1.85)

Plasmoids compiled with the KDE 4.1.73/4.1.80 are giving an error message:
This object could not be created for the following reason:
    Could not find requested component:...

After recompilation and installation they seem to work again. Changes in the plasma ?

    Sounds likely.

I haven't compiled any plasmoids, so I didn't encounter the problem. Which ones are you using? Anything useful, or just playing?
Specs:  Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (@3Ghz), G.SKILL 4GB DDR2 1066, ASUS Striker II Formula MB, Asus EN9800GTX+ Dark Knight, ABS Tagan BZ800 PS, Antec 900 Case.

      Useful ? it depends .

      Using:

      > PlayWolf
      Description:
This plasmoid is a controller and a visualizer of informations about the songs for amarok 2.0.
Update: Nathan Handler has added this to the Jaunty repositories !
      > [ubuntu/jaunty] plasmoid-playwolf 0.3.2-0ubuntu1 (Accepted)

      > Run Command
      Description:
Simple plasmoid to run commands without using terminal or KRunner. Inspired by KRunner runners, plasma-runner and KDE3 equivalent.

      > yaWP (Yet Another Weather Plasmoid)
      Description:
      Yet Another Weather Plasmoid.
This is not complete I am putting it out there for some help.
There is nothing wrong with the ones that exist, I just wanted something more colorful.

      > Next wallpaper
      Description:
      Depends on KDE 4.2

Simple applet that changes the current wallpaper (when in slideshow mode) on command.

      > I HATE the Cashew (plasmoid-cashew-off)
      Description:
      Errm... the name's the program.

I don't like the cashew (the nasty icon in the right top corner of your plasma desktop that won't go away, even if plasma's locked)
It seems to have hardly any function, especially as i'm not interested in plasma's activities.
      ...lot of stuff...
      Usage:
Add the plasmoid to the desktop - cashew's gone.
(You cannot add it more than once, but i don't know if plasma notices that adding failed - i.e. it may present 2 or more instances in the applet browser)
Remove the plasmoid - chashew reappears.

      Had been playing with:
      > PPA >> PPAs matching: plasmoid >>> My PPA

Re: Could not find requested component

I'm having the same issue with a number of plasmoids.

I've attempted to recompile quite a few of them but have run into some issues. Could someone kindly tell me how to remove the widgets I'm having problems with from the "Add Widgets" list so they don't show up?

I've removed the plasma config files but that only removes them from the desktop, not from that list.

        Thanks!

(edit: I haven't actually made the jump to Jaunty yet, I'm still running Ibex with KDE4.2)

Did you remove the .desktop file ? From the /usr/share/kde4/services/ ?

When you are building with the cmake there should be install_manifest.txt.

          Example: plasmoid-systemcommand install_manifest.txt has/installs
          /usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_systemcommand.so
          /usr/share/kde4/services/plasma-applet-systemcommand.desktop
plasma_applet_systemcommand.so is the executable and the plasma-applet-systemcommand.desktop is what the "Add Widgets" will show.

Sometimes you will need to log out and log in that the plasma will notice that there is changes.

That is same as restart the plasma after you have installed a new plasmoid > Development/Tutorials/Plasma/GettingStarted
Otherwise you can restart plasma, so the Applet will be displayed in the Applet Browser:

          kbuildsycoca4
kquitapp plasma # in trunk (KDE4.3): kquitapp plasma-desktop
          plasma # in trunk (KDE4.3): plasma-desktop

Hmm - that "kquitapp plasma-desktop" is 4.3 and later > aseigolasma is now plasma-desktop
