This is probably very easy but im a simpleton. I have a file dump machine running XP. I have used previous linux versions and never had problems accessing my shared folders on the windows machine. Now that I am using Kubuntu Jaunty I can no longer see the shared folders on my windows machine to use as a file dump. Is there a package I need to install or am I missing something already

I know you need Samba installed.
sudo apt-get install samba
should be the right syntax (I am at work on a Windows computer so I can't check) It will tell you if it is already installed.
Weired, I never had a problem getting Kubuntu to view a Windows drive by default.

for accessing a winxp pc you don't need the samba package which contains the samba server, only the smbclient, you might want to try installing smb4k which is awesome for accessing smb / cifs shares !!
