    package manager and wireless

    Hi,
I have just installed 904 and am having a hard time with the new package manger. My wireless also will not work, the widget sees the network but wont connect. How do i install Knetworkmanger or wicd?

also i searched for firefox in kpackage kit, there are sooo many things there which one is "firefox"?

    Thanks:

    Re: package manager and wireless

    I just upgrade 8.10 to 9.04.

So far only one problem, Knetworkmanager did recognise the wireless network but would not connect.
I typed in (Alt+F2) nm-applet and behold! the gnome network manager started up and I was able to connect. 8)

It might be I once installed the gnome network manager 5 months ago but don't remember it.
So it seems to me the nm-applet is installed by default.

If not, the easiest would seem to make a wired connection and install from the repositories.

There are ways to download the necessary .deb via another computer and install it locally.

About Firefox, go for version 3.0.9 and then the meta package.
But I still use Adept and Synaptic.
    Code:
    apt-get install adept
    Update:
And just tried KPackageKit and it looks OK to me.

Indeed no surprise, wicd is not in the regular repositories.

Check google on how to install it or just download the deb and install it locally:
        https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+package/wicd
On the right hand side there is a list with the various flavours, take your pick.

In jaunty wicd is in the regular repositories. I was surprised to find that it is not for Intrepid. The problem is that you now have no network and need to get the package, IIUC. A few options

Plug in an ethernet cable and use it to get the package installed.

Configure the wireless via /etc/network/interfaces until you get wicd installed. I explained how to do this here.
          http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...6973#msg176973

Use another computer to download wicd from the repository and move it to your laptop via a usb drive or cd.

A small bit of progress. I hope it is in KDE 4.3.
