    Enable Kubuntu Restricted Extras or Install Else?

    Hi,
    I've read a post earlier that mentioned the following link
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683

    After reading the topic that mentioned this link, I tend to go to it after each fresh installation of Ubuntu/Kubuntu & install the the stuff form there.

    Before that I used to enable Ubuntu/Kubuntu extras & install some other stuff manually.

    My question would be, which one is better?

    Is it better to enable the Ubuntu/Kubuntu extras from Add/Remove or use the link mentioned above to do all the installations?

    And are there missing things (besides Mplayer/Geco) that are there in the link & not in Ubuntu/Kubuntu extras?

    Re: Enable Kubuntu Restricted Extras or Install Else?

    Hi,

    I do use medibuntu, my basic customization is:

    * add medibuntu, enable most repos (universe, multiverse, ubuntu partner, etc)
    * install vlc
    * install kubuntu-restricted

    That's about it. I looked at that ubuntuforums thread a couple times I got stuck with some codec, I can't remember if it helped though. I used to make sure I had the w32codecs/w64codecs, but I think vlc doesn't need them, so I occasionally forget. I don't do fresh installs most of the time, anyway
