distorted sound, low sound level - Lenovo IdeaPad Y530

I've got 9.04 running quite well on my Y530. I really didn't have to do anything... it's been great! the only issue I'm having now is that the sound is low-quality, i.e. a little distorted and low volume.

    anyone with a fix?

May we assume, therefore, that initially you had good sound on your PC? If 'yes,' when did the sound quality go south? What did you do before that occurred - install package(s), apt-get upgrade, ...?

my apologies. I should have been a little more clear.

the sound worked with Vista installed. I didn't check out the sound until after 9.04 was installed and all of the updates were done.

Okay. Open a console and type:
        Code:
        lspci | grep Audio
        and
        Code:
        sudo modprobe -l sound*
Paste the results. This will tell us what audio controller you have, and what sound modules are running in your kernel.
