    System Services

I asked this question over on KDE and was informed that KDE never had a system services module and so I'm asking here.

Under Kubuntu 8.04, there was an action in the system settings menus for viewing and stopping/starting/restarting system services such as npt, apcupsd, etc.

There is a services manager action, but it is limited to stictly KDE services.

Does the system services module still exist and if so, is it available for installation in the system settings dialog (or elsewhere)?

    Re: System Services

Since KDE4 now runs the whole show the systemsettings "Service Manager" is where it is at.

      Re: System Services

You're saying then that ntp, apcupsd, cupsd, dhclient and all the rest of those daemons that make the system work are now taken over by KDE4??

If that is true, then why don't they show up in the services manager window The only thing I see in the services manager widow is KDE4 s/w.

It is part of the package: kde-guidance
collection of KDE system administration tools for GNU/Linux

Guidance currently consists of four programs designed to help you look after your system:
o userconfig - User and Group administration
        o serviceconfig - Service/daemon administration
o mountconfig - Disk and filesystem administration
o displayconfig - Screen and display configuration
        o wineconfig - Wine configuration

These tools are available in KDE Control Center, System Settings or can be run as standalone applications.

        The last marking is :
28 Mar, 2007 - Version 0.8 is now available. More bug fixes and updates and also the addition of grubconfig by Martin B&oulm;hm. The changelog has the details. - SBE

The last repo version is for the 8.04 Hardy (KDE 3.5). It might work with the Intrepid - might need manual installation.

        Hi KDE and KUbuntu Developers,

My name is Nicolas Ternisien, and I'm the kdeadmin coordinator. I am
planning to port most of Guidance application to KDE 4, in order (if
it does not take too much time) to include it into the kdeadmin module
        for KDE 4.3 release...

        Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?

          Re: System Services

That is indeed what I want.

          Did a search in Synaptic.

          Nothing for KControl.

          KDE_guidance brings up KDE-guidance-powermanagement

So it looks like it isn't available for 9.04 and maybe will be for KDE 4.3

            Re: System Services

I figured in case geezer was still pining for System Services like me, and since I got pointed to this thread as part of an explanation of its current absence in Kubuntu 9.04, I felt I should post a link to my own findings.... ie. it's quite easy to run KDE4's System Services program in KDE 4 on Jaunty!

            http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...7590#msg187590

I had at first confirmed that it worked in 4.3, but it seems to work in KDE 4.2 as well.
