Is there any way to disable the file operation notifications that pop up when you (or your applications) copy, delete or move things? They're slow to draw, slow to disappear, and cover half my netbook screen. KTorrent is especially annoying, since it increments its log files upon startup which translates to ~7 file operations. And it seems to me the notifications all have to draw before any operations actually process, so starting the application takes a good 10 seconds.
