Just did a fresh install of kubuntu 8.04 and did an update to 8.10, but it doesn't seem like firefox or pidgin wants to get themed. They are both using a very ugly gtk theme, and changing the theme in firefox does nothing. =(

I had exactly the same problem after upgrading.
After a bit of spelunking, I edited the file ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4
and replaced the line
withCode:include "/usr/share/themes/Qt4/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
Problem solved...Code:include "/usr/share/themes/qt4/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
