need help: kdm not restarting after logout.

I have had kubuntu on my acer laptop since Edgy... and have upgraded every time. For the most part, I am more pleased than every with the functionality of 8.10, as well as its overall appearance. I ironed out the wifi issues, it even wakes from hibernating now and it never successfully did that before.

One issue... if I want to log out, I get a random line and something about Timidity alsa... nothing that looks like and error and it just hangs. ctrl-alt-F1 brings me to a console login and then I can log in and run sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart, I get a message that kdm is not running and then it starts and I get the login screen and all is well.

I can't figure out what is keeping kdm from restarting at logout, as I see no actual errors anywhere.

I just googled "timidity alsa" and got an eyeful of bug reports. You might want to review them in case any of them are relevant to your setup.
